ABSTRACT : Sour carambola (Averrhoa bilimbi, L.) constitute one of plants than can be used as an antioxidant. This research aims to find out the potential antioxidant activity of ether fraction and methanolic extract liquid of sour carambola leaves on the free radical DPPH. The Sour carambola leaves powder was extracted using soxhlet tool with petroleum ether solvent followed with methanol solvent.
The methanolic extract obtained was suspended with water and partitioned with ether. The ether and aqueous fraction were made in various concentrations: 10, 20, 40, 80 and 160 ppm. Then DPPH solution was added to it. Absorbance reading was conducted with spectrophotometry at the wave length of 517 nm after 30 minutes. The control used was routine.

The result of research shows the potential as antioxidant scavenging free radical with ether fraction value IC50 of 50.36 ppm and liquid fraction of 44.01 ppm. With routine as the control it is obtained IC50 value of 7.00 ppm. The one-way Anava statistic test was conducted on the IC50 values of those three tested solution to find out the significant differences.
